Get over it people it's over. Don't blame the Board of Supervisors for this they just fund the money they don't close schools. Big Stone Gap can thank their School Board members, Ted Thompson and Betty Cornett for this.
I would love to see a breakdown of which communities bring in what percentages of the county's tax revenue. The ones that bring in enough to fund their schools should get to keep them.
They finally did the right thing. Sacrificing Sports Tradition for a better Opportunity of Education for our Children. Deal with it!
Is it true that the left hand may know what the right hand is doing? What I mean is do they not have a person on the BOS that is a brother to a fellow on the School board? A husband on the BOS and his wife on the school board? It is hard for me to believe that talk does not go on behind close doors:rolleyes:
People still choose to ignore the fact that there has NEVER been enough funding for 3 new schools. Call it how you want, but the folks that didn't want to close Appy and Pound had nothing to do with the amount of cash available to build new schools. The 3-in-1 and 2-in-1 only came up after the BOS came up with what they would fund.Quote:

Read that again,- s-l-o-w-e-r. I didn't say anything about an "advantage". What it said was the funding has NEVER been approved for 2 schools on 2 sites. Sorta one of those simple facts, like, "Appy and Pound have already lost their schools". After the cash loss during the last couple of years, Wise can't really afford new schools. Beats me- sounds a lot like "As long as BSG keeps a school, I'm good with whatever happens to anyone else". And remember, PV and JJK are as rundown as anyplace else. The classrooms are about 3/5 of the size needed for education today. That was the result of one of the many studies used as grounds for closing all schools and building new ones. Oh, and the heating and a/c - it isn't up to par with what folks want their kids in. Just updating JJK and PV heating/cooling systems would cost millions.Quote:

Why is everyone so worried about the buses going up and down the four lane? The shop buses do it every day. The handicapped buses do it every day. I don't know of any accidents that have happened with buses since the four lane has been built. I would be a lot more concerened about my child riding the bus or driving between Appalachia and Norton and having to deal with all the coal trucks.
I think it is kind of funny to since about half the time the extra drive comment is followed directly by there kids will be going to Lee/RC/GC instead like there is not extra drive time thereQuote:

If you read what I said ,again, you will find I said "new schools for everybody" And if you will recall, this thread is more about the 2-in-1 than saving any one school. Ie held my peace on this and dunno how common it is in BSG but with J.H. and Betty being married each other tell whats is going on and they make their phone calls to the boards for private talks. Anyway these two own a lot of property around PV high as a few years back i worked a summer for some friends who do home repairs and they sold Betty and JH 4-5 kitchens for houses they own around the high school, they at one delivery said they bought the land between the Valero and High school.
If thats the case you dont think they were all for consolodation at PV because they stood to male a profit if the conty schools had to buy their land, now that it changed what do they do swing 180 degrees because they wouldnt reap any profit from it.
Wrong J.H. Rivers. His cousin own that property between the high school and Valero. Not J.H. and Betty. The one you are thinking about was the one who owned the pharmacy in Appalachia.
